William Sommer died unexpectedly of a massive
heart attack in the Spring of 1992 at the age of 39. He
left behind a wife and two young children. At that time,
Al Rigoni, Bob Kiely, Joe Cavallaro and David Limardi organized
a fundraising effort to assist the Sommer family in providing
for the education of the children.
The annual Sommer Memorial Golf Tournament
was inaugurated in 1993 to help accomplish this objective,
as well as to remember Bill and the profound impact he
had on the lives of those he touched. Through our commitment
to providing for his children, we developed a broader commitment
to helping other children who lost a parent in early life.
This commitment is manifested in the Sommer Foundation
Scholarship. This scholarship not only helps those unfortunate
children who lose a parent early in life, but also keeps
Bill's legacy alive.
